What is Double Club?
Double Club is an innovative programme that generates excitement for learning by focussing on football using enthusiasm for the sport to motivate pupils in the classroom.
Double Club is a completely unique way of improving fundamental skills in literacy, numeracy, speaking, listening and ICT.
Double Club challenges each student to emulate their football heroes and ‘head for success’.
Why use the word Double?
The programme has two key aims:
- To improve confidence and attainment in the classroom
- To improve participation in team sports, especially football
How does it work?
Students are taught in small groups – maximum 14 per group
- Each student has at least 3 hours of classroom sessions a week. The classroom is branded with MFC merchandise and football memorabilia.
- Each group has 1 hour of sport activity planned and delivered by an FA qualified football coach. The coach will deliver between 1 and 3 hours of quality coaching in a fun, safe learning environment.
- Classroom sessions make use of inspirational resources – Matchday programmes, highlights of recent games and exclusive match photographs.
- Effort, achievement and team work are rewarded with various Boro breanded merchandise. The pupil(s) that top the League Table at the end of the season win prizes.
Who is it aimed at?
Double Club is education designed to promote and support students in a cross curricular education programme across Key Stages 2 & 3. However, because of the universal appeal of football Double Club can just as successfully run as a ‘key-skills booster’ programme for pupils in years 8 and 9.
