Write at The Riverside

Write at The Riverside is a project which skilfully combines the creative worlds of poetry writing and movie making.

During the two hour sessions, year 5/6 pupils explore the emotive genre of sports journalism alongside the instructional style of a recipe book.

The specific lanaguage tools used by both are closely examined and pupils’ own skills in these areas are developed as they create a ‘Recipie for success’ in a poem based on a football match.

Throughout the project the pupils use industry standard video technology to bring their poetry to life. The puplils combine archive football footage or scenes that they have shot themselves, with their poetry forming the soundtrack, to create their very own movie. Music, titles and effects are also added to enhance the dramatic effect.

At the end of the four-week project the movie is produced on DVD for the pupils to take home and each pupil produces a poster of their poem using a sophisticated software package.
